Outline consent has been granted by Barnet Council for a 150ha development in north-west London. The £4.5bn scheme by Hammerson, Standard Life and Brookfield Europe will include a new town centre, 7,500 homes, a bus station, three schools and parks and six bridges.

The plans include:

More than £500 million of investment in transport
    £189m on environmental measures
£200m for road improvements including around £50m at Staples Corner
£109m on community infrastructure including health centres and schools
£112m on cleaning up the land and waste disposal
The replacement of Hendon waste transfer station with a scheme to create refuse-derived fuel

The scheme is expected to start on site in 2013.
