Steel
The Uses of Steel
Steel. one of the strongest materials known to man. has a wide range of uses. It is used widely in the construction industry. for things such as roads. railways and infrastructure. Large buildings such as stadiums and airports will have steel skeletons for structural support. Steel is also used for smaller items within buildings. such as lintels. fire screens and glazing.
Modern steels are made to fulfil many different purposes. Different combinations of alloy metals are used to create distinct types. the most commonly used of these being Carbon steel. This is due to the durability and strength of the alloy compound. Another popular steel is Stainless steel. used mainly for industrial equipment such as surgical implements. and also used within food processing plants. This is due to its corrosion resistant exterior and anti bacterial properties.
Refurbishment
It is important to keep steel refurbished. as it can become rusty and/or damaged. Apart from being unsightly in areas where it can be viewed. it is more cost effective to refurbish steel than it is to replace the structure entirely. Steel buildings may also have to be refurbished to meet modern day standards of health and safety. This work will need to be carried out by specialist steel refurbishment companies. who will assess the situation and carry out the work either onsite or will take the items away to be treated at their own premises. depending upon individual factors of the steel location.
Recycling Steel
With the amount of steel present in the world. it perhaps comes as no surprise that it is the most recycled material in the United States. Recycling of steel has been active for over 150 years. as it is cheaper to reuse it than to mine iron ore to create new steel. especially as it does not lose any of it's strength during the recycling process Also. it is better for the environment this way. Stainless steel is 100% recyclable.
