John Sisk starts work on the Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare

John Sisk & Son has started erecting the frame of the new Pavilion building on Weston's Grand Pier.

The appearance of the Pier will start to change quickly now that the first columns are in place with completion of the project on schedule for summer 2010. The specially constructed structural decking is still being laid and this work will continue keeping just ahead of the framing works. The roof lining and cladding will start once the front section of the building frame is erected which is scheduled before the end of November.

More than 100 tonnes of steel per week will be used to form the structure of the new building. In total more than 1,100 tonnes of steel is being supplied by local firm Hayley Engineering for the project.

Commenting on the structure of the Pavilion Les Nicholls, Director Western Region, Sisk commented: “We have already completed a great deal of work on the structure, the steel beams underneath and the new metal deck but this is the first visible sign that the Grand Pier is really on its way to being rebuilt.”
