| Network Rail to spend £3.25bn on nationwide station refurbishment |
Network Rail is set to spend £3.25bn on over 2,000 station refurbishments across the UK between now and 2014.
The rail operator’s spending on stations will vary and it will be asking passengers where they think the money should be spent.
Works will include new passenger information systems, new lifts and stairways, toilets, waiting rooms and shelters, as well as platform and ticket office expansions and upgrades to lighting and CCTV.
More than £100m each will be spent on London Bridge, King’s Cross, Blackfriars, Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh Waverley.
A further £10m will also be invested in Bromsgrove, Leicester, Manchester Victoria, Nottingham, Oxford, Putney and Reading Green Park stations.
