Lincoln gets its first council homes in 20 years

Work has started on the construction of Lincoln’s first new council houses in 20 years, with the hope they will be the first of many in the area.

Planning permission was granted for the small housing project consisting of five three-storey, three bedroomed town houses back in October.

City of Lincoln council leader Ric Metcalfe aired the importance of this scheme saying:

“Whilst this development is relatively small, but in buying our independence we hope we can continue on a programme of building more council homes.

“We are trying to address the acute housing need in the city and we have 3,000 people on our waiting list and lots of other people looking for affordable rental accommodation – it is a desperate situation in Lincoln.”
