GlaxoSmithKline to build a £350m plant

GlaxoSmithKline is set to build a new pharmaceutical plant in Cumbria, its first in the UK for 40 years.

The £350m investment will create jobs as well as provide a well needed boost to the economy.

Works is expected to start by 2015 following a detailed planning and design phase, with completion, to a fully functional stage, expected to take at least 6 years.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: “This is excellent news, a major investment that will create many highly skilled jobs and provide a great boost to the economy.

“It shows why we are right to cut business tax and focus on making the UK a dynamic and competitive place that can attract exactly this type of high tech investment.”
