This afternoon the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne delivered his much anticipated Autumn statement to the House of Commons.
The Government has published its National Infrastructure Plan 2011 which contains more than 500 individual projects covering railways, roads and airports.
Key points in the National Infrastructure Plan include:
- - Setting up a new approach to financing infrastructure, this will be done with the £20 billion of private investment from pension funds
- - Allowing local authorities to support major infrastructure through local borrowing
- Allowing £1 billion for congestion problem solutions and improvements to the national road network
- - Investing more than £1.4 billion in railway infrastructure and commuter links
