First phase of £450m Croydon regeneration gets go-ahead

The first phase of a 3450m regeneration scheme in the centre of Croydon has been given the green light.

A new 36,000m2 headquarters for the local authority will be built as part of a joint venture between John Laing and Croydon Council.

Construction of the new council HQ is expected to start in early 2010 subject to the scheme being approved by the Greater London Authority.

The building will house other public services and it will provide an opportunity for a future police one-stop shop and Primary Care Trust facilities if required.

Landscaping, car and cycle parking, a fifth floor roof area and eighth floor garden, landscape and access works are also included in the proposal.
