| New Roma stadium powered by solar panels |
The new eco-friendly Franco Sensi football stadium in Rome, Italy, is to be lined with solar panels around the building.
The club’s new home will be fully clad in energy-generating photovoltaic panels, and will include a museum of Rome’s football team, bars, restaurants, and lounges.
From its exterior, the stadium may appear to be a huge energy consumer with a massive band around the perimeter, which during the game will display messages and pictures through a gigantic LED screen.
But appearances can be deceptive - the energy efficient design includes an outer zinc-titanium membrane shell with one layer covered by solar photovoltaic panels. A second translucent layer will allow 80% of light to pass through it while protecting patrons from the rain.
The stadium is to be named after Franco Sensi, the former chairman of the club.
