Balfour Beatty wins £188m international rail contracts  

Balfour Beatty has been awarded a £64m electrical contract in China as well as other international contracts in Sweden and Germany, totalling £188 million.

In China, Balfour Beatty Rail has secured a £64m electrical contract for the Ministry of Railways of China. The 616-kilometre, double-track, passenger and freight line project will include the delivery of overhead contact line and traction substations. The contract is due for completion in the summer of 2010.

Meanwhile the Swedish rail administration, Banverket, has named Balfour Beatty Rail the preferred bidder for a £82m railway maintenance contract for 1,270 kilometres in the Västra Götaland region in three separate contracts.

In Germany, they have also secured two multi-disciplinary contracts totalling £39 million.
