ISG has been named preferred bidder for a £13.5m contract with Imperial College London to refurbish the mechanical engineering building.

The first phase of the redevelopment of the building is due to commence in August and will see ISG carrying out the refurbishment and modernisation across the lower three floors within the mechanical engineering building.

Minor demolition works and complex structural alterations of the existing building will enable the contractor to form a range of engineering workshops and testing laboratories.

This second phase of the redevelopment includes major works to improve the exterior of the building, with Foster & Partners designing this element.

Completion for the project is scheduled for October 2010.
