VolkerFitzpatrick has been named as preferred bidder to redevelop the Cambridge campus of Anglia Ruskin University.

The contract, worth an estimated £22m, will involve the demolition of one building and the construction of several new buildings, which will form a ‘wrap’ around an internal courtyard.

The four-storey wrap will extend and refurbish the existing library and media centre to create a new learning hub. New lecture theatres and classrooms will be built, social areas will be improved and there will be spaces for a mezzanine exhibition and drama rehearsal.

The project is due to be completed in time for the start of the 2011 academic year.
