Demolition is the process of knocking down structures and buildings. This involves clearing a site by either manually or mechanically using hydraulic equipment, cranes, excavators or bulldozers.
The demolition of larger buildings may require bigger machinery to cut through buildings and even in some cases explosives. For safety reasons demolition experts ensure that the wreckage falls into itself so that it does not affect any nearby structures or buildings, this is important in built up areas and cities.
Before demolition can take place, buildings are prepared by testing for asbestos, disconnecting utilities and stripping the area of all materials, such as, glass, copper, wiring and insulation. Demolition permits, detailed safety plans and notifications are also required before progress can be made.
In construction, common projects include the demolition of bridges, chimneys, facades, machinery and buildings.
