Morgan Sindall has reached financial close on a £38m sports development in Essex.

The project, named Basildon Sporting Village, is the largest sporting facility in the Thames Gateway regeneration scheme. The sports centre will include a 450 capacity swimming venue, an eight-court sports hall, a gymnastics centre and a climbing wall.

Community Solutions for Leisure is leading the scheme with construction being carried out by Morgan Ashurst and civil and structural engineering by Morgan Professional Services.

The project is scheduled to start to October with completion set for Spring 2011.
